When you go to a medical practice to get a prescription for female viagra, there’s a whole category of medications that can help with low libido, sexual dysfunction, and other sexual health issues. But what about women? In a recent study, researchers looked at the effects of female Viagra on women’s health.
They found that women who took a higher dose of the female Viagra had a higher risk of experiencing erectile dysfunction, and this risk was associated with a higher likelihood of a lack of sexual desire. For example, men who took a higher dose of Viagra experienced an increased risk of developing the condition called ‘premenstrual syndrome,’ a common medical condition that causes pain and swelling in women’s bodies.
“While we don’t know the exact cause of this lack of libido, we do know that low sex drive and low body temperature are two underlying factors that are related to low sex drive. We’re going to answer this question at a time when we need to address this and make it a topic of conversation for both women and men,” said Dr. Hargreaves, the research director of the Sexual Medicine Clinic at the University of British Columbia. “The findings in this study will help inform women’s sexual health and the treatment of low libido.”
Viagra, the brand name for the little blue pill, is the active ingredient in the popular drug ‘Sildenafil’ (Viagra), which works by increasing blood flow to the penis, helping men get and keep an erection. In women, this increases sensitivity to sexually transmitted infections, and in some cases, makes them more likely to have painful sex.
“We know that women have a higher risk of having low sex drive, so we’re going to explore whether there’s a relationship between low sex drive and female Viagra,” Dr. Hargreaves said. “We’re also going to address the link between low sex drive and lack of sexual desire in women.”
The researchers analyzed data from the clinical trial of a study called The Women’s Health Initiative (WHI), which enrolled 542 women. The women took the drug for six months, before switching to a lower dose. The researchers looked at whether the increased risk of developing low libido and erectile dysfunction was related to higher doses of the drug taken over a longer period of time.
The researchers found that women who took a higher dose of the female Viagra had a greater likelihood of experiencing erectile dysfunction.
“For example, we found that those who took a higher dose of the female Viagra experienced an increased likelihood of developing the condition called ‘premenstrual syndrome’. We know that low sex drive and low body temperature are two underlying factors that are related to low sex drive, so we’re going to answer this question at a time when we need to address this and make it a topic of conversation for both women and men,” Dr.
The researchers also looked at the impact of taking the drug on other sexual problems, such as low libido and pain.
The study authors say their findings suggest that women should be cautious about taking Viagra, especially in the presence of a high risk of low libido. “It’s essential for women to have an open conversation about what it is, what it isn’t, and what it might be like if they do decide to use this medication,” said Dr. Hargreaves.

The erectile dysfunction treatment Viagra, which is sold under the brand name Cialis by Pfizer, is a treatment that contains the active ingredient tadalafil and works by relaxing blood vessels in the penis. Pfizer’s Viagra, the world’s largest erectile dysfunction drug, is based on the principle that by increasing blood flow to the penis, it helps men to achieve and maintain an erection. The erectile dysfunction treatment was originally intended to treat erectile dysfunction in men, but it was later found to be ineffective. Pfizer has since launched Viagra in the UK in the fourth quarter of 2016. The drug is marketed by Pfizer, which makes Viagra.
